Q:
How to prevent string parsing?
In a C application (likely to be distributed via Windows systems), I would like to parse a string and catch exceptions (such as unbalanced delimiters). If a delimiter is mis-matched, the parser should return an empty string (or null for C++). In the case of an empty string, the parser should continue as if it were good.
My first naive approach was to use a string constructor that catches exceptions, but that would require a C++ string which could be confusing. I also considered a stringstream, but I prefer to avoid parsing strings if possible. This feels like an application for a state machine
